When I was hired as a PV Maintenance Engineer in the Solar Power Plant, it was still under construction. Initially, the daily activities differed from my expectations, primarily involving office works and documentations. However, as the Commercial Operation Date of the plant approaches, I am anticipating a shift towards more hands-on operations and maintenance activities. I am hopeful for the opportunity to contribute effectively to the operational phase, ensuring a well-organized and successful maintenance approach.

I am part of the team who is responsible for the effective and efficient operation and dispatch of the generation assets of the plant to maximize energy generation and resources. Aside from such, we safely manage the transition of all renewable plant assets under the Hedcor group from operation to safe-to-maintain states.

As a recent graduate hired for a position in the field, I am highly satisfied with how things have been - especially with the training that allowed me to apply what I learned in college. I also find great satisfaction in having a sense of responsibility in my work here in AboitizPower.

Pros and cons of working at AboitizPower

Pros

  • Structure and organization, and the 'always a student' mindset. As someone fresh out of university, finding an organization that develops you to become an effective contributor is hard to come by here in the Philippines. So when I became part of the program here in AboitizPower, right off the bat, I knew that I was going to learn a lot due to the vast number of learning opportunities available. They weren't joking about the 'always a student' mindset. The system. The company has really good culture and the values are being manifested by the people in the company exuding a good working environment that fosters learning and growth. Included in the system is the satisfactory compensation.

  • Every aspect in AboitizPower is excellent. The training program for the Cadet Engineers is fine-tuned to equip the trainees with adequate knowledge and technical expertise. The employees are purpose-driven and are very smart. The facilities are up to standard and the equipment are not cluttered. AboitizPower also emphasizes to implement the safety protocols in isolating equipment and conducting hazard analysis.

  • At AboitizPower, the culture and the emphasis on integrity set a high standard for work ethic and performance. Mistakes are viewed as learning opportunities and are not discouraged.

  • The best thing about AboitizPower is how engaged the employees are. AboitizPower provides various opportunities and activities for employees to showcase their talents, skills, and camaraderie. Furthermore, the working environment fosters better collaboration between leaders and team members.

  • One of the most compelling aspects of working at AboitizPower is the vibrant culture that fosters both innovation and integrity. Our work environment encourages creative thinking and problem-solving, nurturing a culture of continuous improvement. The emphasis on innovation not only propels our commitment to staying at the forefront of our industry but also provides employees with exciting opportunities to contribute groundbreaking ideas. Moreover, AboitizPower places a strong emphasis on integrity. We take pride in upholding high ethical standards, ensuring that our actions align with our core values. This commitment to integrity creates a trustworthy and collaborative atmosphere where employees feel empowered to make a positive impact. It's truly gratifying to be part of a workplace that values both innovation and integrity, making each day rewarding and inspiring.

Cons

    • The plant I am assigned to is situated quite far, but the commute is manageable thanks to AboitizPower's shuttle service.

    • There is no worst thing about working for AboitizPower so far, as my experience has been very smooth – from onboarding to orientation and actual lectures and training. However, if I were to mention a challenge, it would be more on the personal side. I commute daily using the company shuttle for free, and I am still adjusting to it. As the days go by, I am becoming more accustomed to the daily commute. I am still in the process of adapting, but I am willing to do so because I genuinely enjoy learning every day from our cadetship program.

    • AboitizPower's program for fresh graduates could be improved to encourage better talent mobility between different business units.

    • As a fresh graduate with no previous working experience, I currently do not have unsatisfactory experience with the company.

    • None.
